Does Astrology help us understand what's happening?

I have always been interested in Astrology, Numerology and other so called 'New Age' means to help us understand our world. I don't see the information as written in stone, that it has to happen a certain, predicted way, but more as a road map pointing out the obstacles and the different routes.

This morning I came across an interesting article by Barbara Hand Clow, scroll down to the Virgo New Moon: August 30, 2008 section. Here one part of the article that really caught my attention:
"I realize that it might look like I am biased about these events, yet I am simply tracking things that show significant diminishment of global respect for America. I am watching this building anti-Americanism (like in the 1960s) because we are moving closer to the first Saturn/ Uranus opposition since 1965-67, when the US was in turmoil over the Vietnam War and racism. Back in the mid-1960s, Saturn was in Pisces opposing Neptune in Virgo, and now Saturn is in Virgo moving to an opposition to Uranus in Pisces. In the coming months, I will have much to say about this opposition, which will be close all the way through 2010. I will address the fact that the Saturn/Uranus oppositions in the 1960s and the ones coming in 2008-2010 significantly aspect the USA Neptune in Virgo, which squares Mars in Gemini. For now, let us note that the first Saturn/Uranus opposition, which will create significant tensions between authority and freedom, will occur on November 4, 2008, the day of the US Presidential election! What are the chances this is just a coincidence? Considering this building opposition and the great shift in world power during July and August 2008, let us examine this New Moon Virgo to imagine how it might sculpt these changes that have already started."
I can't explain why, but I have always had that feeling that we were about to repeat what happened in the late 60s and this article put everything in perspective for me. Saturn and Uranus are in the same alignment they were in then, the only difference is that they have switched signs. So it is a repeat performance, but as we all know, you can't really repeat something and get the same result as time has passed. Time moves in circles, no it moves in spirals and we think we are back where we started, but that is not the case. It might look that we are back at the same spot, but we are now a level higher and have experienced things that have colored our point of view. And so, I view that alignment of Saturn and Uranus as such. It might feel like it is a repeat performance, but with the planets in opposite signs this time around, the influences have changed and so the outcome will also be different. I am looking forward to see how this all will unfold.

Sleep Tip from the Mentalist TV Show

I like watching the Mentalist TV show and yesterday I got finally around to watch my latest recorded show. To my delight and surprise Patrick Jane's character gave this tip to help you fall asleep: If you have falling asleep you can count sheep or on your in-breath say or think 1 and then when you breath out say or think 2. On your next in-breath say or think 1 and when you breath out say or think 2. Keep on repeating this and you will be surprised that when you wake up it is morning. Give it a try and then connect with me on Facebook and let me know what happened . . . counting sheep

How to Make Simple Square Foot Gardening Templates

backside of template with holes drilled I am just about ready to start planting my square foot garden . Until now I have used string and sticks to mark things, but then I got an idea of how I could easily make some templates from old plastic election signs. The material was easy to cut with a knife and a permanent marker would help with the design. At first I thought that I would need a whole bunch of templates, but as I got going I realized that I could actually get away with only 2 templates. First cut 2 12x12 inch pieces from the plastic signs Draw a grid:  template 1: 3 rows and 3 columns template 2: 4 rows and 4 columns Mark the center of each square of the grid by drawing diagonal lines Use the electric drill and a ½" drill bit and drill a hole at each center point. Template 1 Template 1 Grid of 3 row and 3 columns (9 plants - holes circled in blue) This can also be used for 1 plant per square foot (hole circled in black and then blue)

Companion Planting Chart

Have you ever heard of companion planting ? Wikipedia explains it very nicely: Companion planting is the planting of different crops in proximity (in gardening and agriculture), on the theory that they assist each other in nutrient uptake, pest control, pollination, and other factors necessary to increasing crop productivity. Companion planting is a form of polyculture. Companion planting is used by farmers and gardeners in both industrialized and developing countries for many reasons. Many of the modern principles of companion planting were present many centuries ago in cottage gardens in England and home gardens in Asia.
